Recently a Web survey was sent around asking what European researchers using survey research thought about more exchange of information about survey research within Europe. The result of the survey was that a lot of people were in favour of a European conference on survey research. Most of them were also in favour of a European journal for survey research and of the start of a European Association for Survey Research (EASR). So we have decided to formally start the EASR and as an inaugural activity we have organised the first EASR conference in Barcelona form 18-22 July 2005. During the conference the EASR will officially be founded and decisions will be made about the journal and about joining the European Association for Methodology (EAM).
